Entrepreneur Profile Test (EPT) – Discover Your Entrepreneurial Archetype

The Entrepreneur Profile Test (EPT) is based on the idea that entrepreneurs possess distinct characteristics that contribute to their ability to succeed. This framework builds on international research that initially identified five entrepreneurial profiles.

The Origins of EPT: From Research to Realization

My journey into the world of entrepreneurial research began during my time at Boston University’s Entrepreneurial Institute in 2005. The dynamic environment in the Boston ecosystem offered invaluable observations that became the foundation of my research into Entreprenology, Entrepreneurology, and Entrepreneurship. These experiences sparked key insights that shaped my early research.

By 2007, I had developed my initial hypotheses, including the possibility of a sixth archetype that extended beyond the existing frameworks. This led to a significant breakthrough when I presented my research on the sixth entrepreneurial archetype at The International Conference on ThinkingICOT ,in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, in 2009. This work laid the groundwork for the creation of the world’s first Entrepreneur Profile Test (EPT), developed in collaboration with licensed psychologist Hans-Olle Frummerin and officially launched in 2010.

What is the Entrepreneur Profile Test (EPT)?

The EPT is designed to reveal which of the six entrepreneurial archetypes best aligns with your unique traits and behaviors. More than just a behavioral and personality assessment, the EPT offers deep insights into your entrepreneurial tendencies. While the results indicate tendencies, your decision to pursue entrepreneurship ultimately remains your own.

The test’s accuracy is supported by a high degree of face validity, meaning the results intuitively resonate with those taking the test. The EPT is notable for its ability to measure response congruence—a measure of how consistent your answers are—and presents this in percentages rounded to the nearest five or ten (e.g., 60%, 70%, 85%).  Read more about EPT´s  – Validation & reliability – Entrepreneur profile test, here

Beyond Entrepreneurship: EPT’s Broader Applications

Since 2017, with the addition of intrapreneur profiles, certified EPT coaches have started using the EPT for broader purposes, including:

  • Recruitment
  • Personnel and team development
  • Coaching and mentoring
  • Leadership training

These certified coaches provide feedback sessions to clients to support individual growth and team dynamics. Participants receive a detailed personality profile that can aid in personal and professional development.

The Research Foundation of EPT

The Entrepreneur Profile Test is built on rigorous research and years of exploration into the traits and skills that define successful entrepreneurs. The test’s design is highly sophisticated, ensuring that the insights are both practical and impactful. Your results can serve as a valuable tool for reflection and growth—whether you choose to apply them to your entrepreneurial journey or use them for deeper personal development.

From Boston to Breakthrough: A Personal Story

My time at Boston University’s Entrepreneurial Institute in 2005 was pivotal, shaping my understanding of the entrepreneurial mindset. By 2007, I was developing the first concepts that would later lead to the sixth archetype. Presenting these findings at the International Conference on Thinking in 2009 was a defining moment in my career, paving the way for the creation of the EPT.

In my TEDx talkWhat’s So Special About Entrepreneurs?, I shared insights from this research, focusing on the impact of birth order, education, and other formative factors on the six distinct entrepreneurial archetypes. The talk explored the core question: What makes an entrepreneur? By examining various entrepreneurial backgrounds, motivations, and outcomes, I highlighted the shared traits that define these archetypes and contribute to their success.
